Celebrating Twenty Five Years in The Business

This month marks 25yrs in the business. It all started when I found myself unemployed and for the first time I was clueless as to what my next venture would be. I had been a seamstress at Hanes Factory in Las Cruces, A Tupperware Manger then after moving to Midland TX a designer for Sherwin Williams then a Sales Associate at Sakowitz. Within days of closing the doors at Sakowitz forever another door opened for me as a partner in a vintage clothing business.
My partners name was Jo Dufo a true hippy gypsy artist who had traveled the world and lived in Soho during the 70's. Our store was an old airstream trailer that was parked out in the country in Midland TX on the south side of town. Inside were piles of vintage clothes mostly from the 50's and 60's. The business was called the Alternative clothing store.
I would travel around west tx selling and promoting the store. I came up with idea to paint on the vintage clothing that had stains on them . A new business was born from this our business grew with newspaper stories and fashion shows. Our signature look was petticoats slips worn over leggings. Thanks to Madonna and Cyndi Lauper painted jackets and vintage clothing were flying out the door.
This adventure lasted about 9 months and then I went off on my own. My family and I had gone on vacation to visit family and then I found this wonderful vintage clothing store that was going out of business it was called Amador house antiques. I bought the entire collection and called my business The Cat's Pajamas. My first show was at a flea market at San Antonio then I became a regular at The Fair Park Flea market in Dalllas.
